25. George O’Rear Goes to Boston

George O’Rear was a son of Colonel Jeremiah C. O’Rear of Montgomery County, Kentucky, and became an attorney at law. For a time he was a tavern keeper in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, later moving to Texas. He was a Confederate Soldier, serving in a Texas regiment. His son, George O’Rear of New York City gave me this account. George O’Rear as a young man drove a herd of cattle all of the way from Kentucky to Boston, Mass. (This could have been about 1840, see sketch 22). After selling the cattle he was arrested for smoking his pipe on the streets of Boston.
